ICAS’ Practical Learning Culture

Manipal Academy of Higher Education is a renowned name and an esteemed institution in the education industry. Over the years, it has produced some of the world’s greatest minds and geniuses. The reason behind this success story is the way Manipal approaches education – practically. Manipal is home to some of the best institutions for higher studies including the International Center for Applied Sciences (ICAS), which also approaches learning and teaching in a more practical way than traditional textbook ways.

Manipal’s ICAS is special for many reasons, its International Transfer Program being the main one. Through the ITP, students can pursue two years of their engineering or B. Tech in India and the final two years of their engineering or B. tech abroad. ICAS prepares its students in a well-rounded manner for this program and for the world. Its experiential and practical learning has served as the stepping stones for many of the brightest minds in this country.

What is Practical Learning?

Practical learning is a very active learning method where you perform every activity on your own and absorb the minutest of details. It is very difficult to understand something that you have never done before, and that is the problem that practical learning solves.

This active learning method is the foundation upon which the academic culture of ICAS is built on. From classrooms that foster new ideas and innovation to industry relevant experiential training, ICAS provides its students the best hands-on academic experience.

ICAS’ practical learning methods

The International Center for Applied Sciences gives its students a holistic academic experience through its various specially crafted programs and lessons. Some of them are:

a. Innovation Center:

The innovation center is a space that fosters ideas, knowledge and uninhibited growth for the students. It not only gives students the opportunity to explore their passions and ideas, but also provides them with the right guidance and mentorship that can help take their projects and innovation to the next level. It helps them learn and imbibe from their own selves, with ample support from their professors and mentors.

b. Industry tie-ups:

ICAS has an academic association with the most top-notch organizations and people in the relevant industries. They provide students with a chance to experience their future in real-time. Prominent people and luminaries from these industries engage with the students of ICAS and discuss the global and local trends and helping them with their study abroad programs.

c. Face-to-face interaction with global delegates:

While ICAS prepares its students for their two years abroad in multiple ways, one of the most hands-on ways is the chance for them to meet and interact with delegates from foreign universities. Students of ICAS don’t just rely on internet research to prepare for their foreign university, they learn of it practically through these interactions. From the learning styles to the local culture, the students ask and discuss various pointers that can make them ready for their study abroad. They can prepare for their international transfer with a little more confidence, thanks to these interactions.

When the students complete their time in ICAS, Manipal, they won’t just be prepared to transfer to their new host country and university, but they would also be ready to take on the real world. They hold in their hands and minds the combined experience of textbook and experiential learning that moulds them into holistic individuals.
